The New Mexico State Fair Has It All
If you’ve never been to a state fair, make your first one be the New Mexico State Fair, held every year in gorgeous Albuquerque. And with such gracious tour guides as Lynette and Chicharron, the designated spokesperson and the fair's spokespig, you’ll be sure to have a great time during your stay in Albuquerque.
The state fair in Albuquerque features a number of different events that shine a spotlight on Southwestern and New Mexican culture, such as local arts, livestock shows, a green chile cheeseburger challenge, the New Mexico State Fair Queen pageant, a rodeo, musical acts, and much more. Stay at a local hotel to maximize your time at the fair.
Fun for the Whole Family
Aside from cultural exhibitions, there are some stand-by attractions that adults and kids alike love about the fair. For instance, the daily carnival is always a hit, and the entertainment stages offer something for just about everyone.
The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, or PRCA, Rodeo is also a big draw. At the New Mexico State Fair, there are eight events, including the Grand Entry, Bareback Riding, Steer Wrestling, Saddle Bronco Riding, Tie-Down Roping, Barrel Racing, and Bull Riding.
Take a break from the action and visit the Green Chile Cheeseburger Challenge, in which local restaurants participate to win the title of Best Green Chile Cheeseburger in New Mexico. This event celebrates hatch chiles, a specific pepper native to New Mexico.
There are also Creative and Home Arts Placements, which celebrate different types of arts and skills, such as bread making, cake decorating, scrapbooking, and plenty of other things.
