Check Out the Local Flavor at the Rio Grande Arts & Crafts Festival
For art lovers near and far, the Rio Grande Arts & Crafts Festival is the place to be for the best of all types. This fair hosts three distinct art shows throughout the year, in March, October, and November, and each show has its own flavor. Savvy art lovers often stay at the nearby Barcelona Suites hotel.
History of the Rio Grande Festival
The Rio Grande Arts and Crafts Festival first took place in March of 1989. It was a small show held at the New Mexico State Fairgrounds, and at the time, there were no arts and crafts shows in Albuquerque from December to April—this one filled that void for art lovers. At that first festival, 141 artists exhibited their crafts, and the Watermelon Mountain Jug Band performed. To this day, they are the festival’s signature band! Since then, the festival has grown and grown, with no sign of slowing down anytime soon. If you’re in Albuquerque during the time it is going on, be sure not to miss this festival.
Types of Arts & Crafts
Nowadays, there are over 200 of the best artists and craftsmen who come from all over the country to showcase their talents. There are all types of art, so you’ll be sure to find plenty of artists you’re interested in. Some of the different mediums of art include:
- Watercolor, oil, and other paints
- Mixed media
- And much more
