If you think there’s nothing like eating a delicious piece of chocolate and washing it down with a bold cup of coffee, then you’ll need to start packing your bags and booking your hotel to attend the Southwest Chocolate and Coffee Fest in Albuquerque! See what’s in store for this year’s event.
The Sweet Details
This year, the fourth annual Southwest Chocolate and Coffee Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 22 and 23 at the Expo New Mexico Fairgrounds. With more than 15,000 attendees expected and more than 100 chocolatiers, coffee roasters, bakers, candy makers, wineries and breweries providing their mouth-watering food and drinks, this year’s Fest will undoubtedly be good to the last drop—and bite! At only $10 per ticket (and free for those 12 and under), this festival is an affordable day of food and fun.
While you’re at the Festival, you can, of course, nosh on all the chocolate and sip cup after cup of coffee, but you’ll have plenty of entertainment options, too. You can watch one of the many cooking demos from professionals at The Southwest Dairy Farmers or the Santa Fe Culinary Academy, among others, or you can watch the live cow milking demonstrations.
Want to bring the family out for some sugar- and caffeine-filled fun? You all can hang out in the kids zone, where there will be free face painting, bounce houses, games and other forms of entertainment. Your kids may be tuckered out and immediately fall asleep once you get back to the hotel room, but they will love that you brought them out for such a sweet day in Albuquerque.
Chocolate Eating Contest
Do you have years of experience of eating chocolate of all shapes, sizes and delicacies (like so many of us do!) and think you have what it takes to eat it competitively? You’re in luck—the Southwest Chocolate and Coffee Fest features a chocolate eating contest. This year’s chocolate food of choice? The chocolate pie! To claim eternal chocolate glory, you’ll need to be the first one to finish eating an entire chocolate pie—without any silverware. The entry fee for this rich, delectable contest is $5 and is open to anyone ages 7 or older. If you’re interested, sign up now because only 10 contestants are allowed per contest. Just makes sure you’ve got a pair of stretchy pants waiting for you back at your Albuquerque hotel—you’re probably going to need them after all that pie! It’ll be worth it, though, and you’ll find yourself counting down the days until you can book another hotel room for next year’s Southwest Chocolate and Coffee Festival.
